About Carrie

Carrie Melissa Miller, age 46, passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, August 31, 2024, surrounded by family and friends.  Carrie attended Utica Stevenson High School (as a member of the National Honor Society) and Michigan State University.  As a child, she loved camping, dance, karate, shopping with her mother, long bike rides with her dad, and traveling to Japan with her Japanese Club.

Carrie was born to Patricia Oss Miller and Thomas E Miller of Sterling Heights, Michigan.  A proud mom of Ellie and Noah, she was also a pet mom to dogs, Murphy & Willie, many cats, and 3 goats. Her lifelong love of animals started with her childhood dog, Herbie.  She was active with local animal shelters, often serving as a foster mom and working at Smith’s Alpaca Acres.

Her caring was not limited to animals as she helped seniors in the area with her Certified Nursing Assistant training. Her final job was as a John McGee-educated job trainer at Goodwill of Bad Axe where she was known for her gentle approach to the people she worked with.  She will be missed by many of those she served.

Carrie was known for her free spirit and was larger than life.  She was a loving DeadHead and lamented being born too late for the flower power generation in which she thought her soul belonged. She carried so much love and compassion for everything and everyone, no matter the circumstances.

Ms. Miller was preceded in death by her former husband and father of her children, Jeffrey Stapleton in 2021 and is survived by her children Ellie and Noah, her loving boyfriend, James Scott, her mother and stepfather, Patrica L. and Brian Schwartz, her father and stepmother Thomas E. and Sharon T. Miller, her sister-in-law, Jan Armstrong as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Oh, give me the beat, boys, and free my soul

I wanna get lost in your rock 'n' roll and drift away
